602 N Howard Street project is a mixed use space in central Baltimore. The project was designed to provide retail space on the ground level and self-storage on the 2nd through 5th floors. This historic building was once occupied by the first duckpin bowling alley in Baltimore. With endless character, this building provided materials that were used in the renovated space. The reclaimed wood from the bowling alley was utilized throughout the entire design. The ceiling heights on the top floor of the existing building were high enough that we were able to add a floor in order to maximize the overall storage space. With direct access to the Centre Street metro stop on the east side of the structure, this unique building is located in the vibrant Mt. Vernon neighborhood just a few blocks from the historic Washington Monument and the Walters Art Museum. Award: 2019 Historic Preservation Award for Adaptive Reuse & Compatible Design
