Shaffer Hall Second and 4th Floor Renovation

Location: Baltimore, Maryland Client: Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering Area: 6,100 SF Completion: 2012

Renovation of the second and fourth floors of Shaffer Hall for the Whiting School of Engineering’s Computer Sciences Department. The 6,100 SF renovation required extensive demolition to provide an open plan for graduate student work/desk and collaboration space, as well as private offices for the faculty. The design optimized the natural lighting from the limited windows that were available by strategically designing interior glazing for walls, full lite doors and overhead transoms. The design addressed the user’s desire for a high-tech aesthetic with open ceilings, exposed structure and duct work and new efficient contemporary lighting throughout. New carpet, resilient flooring and paint color scheme added to the space. Colimore Architects consulted on the selection of furnishings, fabrics, accessories, and furniture placement.
