Helping Up Mission – Women’s & Children’s Center

Helping Up Mission’s – Women’s and Children’s Center is moving along!

Colimore Architects is leading a design team to develop a high-rise multi-family residential and administrative building for a long-time client, Helping Up Mission, in downtown Baltimore.  Helping Up Mission has historically served homeless men with substance abuse issues in Baltimore by providing housing, meals and long-term recovery programs.  This project will facilitate a new program to extend the same services to women in Baltimore including women with children.

The building will be located on an urban lot situated partially over MTA subway tunnels providing unique challenges for the proposed two levels of underground parking and seven levels above grade.  The entry level off Baltimore Street will feature a double-height lobby and multi-purpose room, dining facility with seating for over 100, a commercial kitchen and landscaped outdoor terraces.  Above will be administrative offices, classrooms, counselling centers, activity areas and four levels of residential units.  The green roof will provide sweeping city vistas from covered decks and landscaped open courtyards.

The design is intended to mediate between the rowhouses along Baltimore Street and the ongoing large-scale commercial development that is rapidly transforming this area of town.
